Picking a plan

Start With the Age of What You Own

An old furnace and a new dishwasher do not deserve the same worry.

List what runs every day in your house and roughly when it was installed. Older equipment that would be costly to replace is where home warranty coverage earns its fee. Send me that list and I will tell you which plan suits it.

  • Fee per service visit
  • Payout cap per item
  • Waiting period at the start
  • Rules for older equipment
  • Optional extra items
  • Renewal and cancel terms

What Happens After You File

01

Report the Fault

Sign in to your plan account, then describe what stopped working and when.

02

A Visit Gets Booked

The plan provider hands the job to a contractor nearby, and a date is set.

03

Cause Is Found

You pay the set visit fee, then the contractor tracks down the real cause.

04

Repair or Replace

Covered parts get repaired, or your plan pays toward the replacement unit.

Homeowners in their own words

What plan holders say about LeonaHomes

My dryer quit heating on a Sunday. I filed that night, paid the visit fee on Tuesday and had warm towels again before the weekend.

Appliance plan

Nobody had ever told me a waiting period existed. I heard about it here before signing, so the start date came as no shock.

LV

Systems plan

The plan would not take my old garage fridge, and I was told so on day one. That kind of honesty is the reason I renewed it.

Home Warranty Questions, Answered

No. Insurance pays for damage from events such as fire or storms. A home warranty pays to repair or replace a covered system or appliance that fails from normal wear.

Yes. Plans are sold for homes of any age and an inspection is not usually required. Problems that were already there before your start date are not covered.

It is a flat amount written into your contract and paid to the contractor each time a request is opened. I show you that figure before you sign up.

In most cases the plan provider sends one from its own network. Some plans allow an outside contractor with approval first, so tell me if that matters to you.

Twelve months from your start date. Near the end of the term I write to you about renewing, and that is a good moment to switch plans if your needs have changed.
